I'm curious to see just what all Crash can do in this game, since the level design so far looks basically exactly how I'd want a modern Crash done. I've always quite liked rail grinding in platformers, from Ratchet to Sonic, and it looks pretty well done here and I think it fits well with Crash too. For my money, Crash is probably the best feeling platforming character to run and jump with that isn't Mario. I think Mark Cerny even talked about that somewhere. You're right about the hesitation at the top of his jump, it's one of the thing that Mario does really well (and classic Sonic too). The jumping does seems more straight up then down. The part with the neon signs and flamethrowers might be the one that reminds me most of the original games, and I definitely want to see more. I like the look of several of the sequences now honestly, and I'm sure it'll look even better in person. I too thought/wished they'd go for a more detailed, lush texture style, but it still looks good. I probably replay them all at least once a year. I've played those original 3 games a ton since the 90's. It's cool that you worked on marketing those games, the marketing around them was also pretty good no matter where, tv, magazines, etc. Sane Trilogy in this regard rather than the original games.Īll this said, I'm still very excited for this and will play the hell out of this when the time arrives.Ĭlick to shrink.I didn't see your quote in my notifications and only just now saw this. Crash 4, so far, unsurprisingly looks more like the N. In many ways, the core basics of Crash (run, jump, spin, interact with crates, wumpa fruit, and enemies) felt very good and is probably the one platformer series that comes the closest to replicating Mario in that manner of nailing the core basic fundamentals.įrom what we've seen so far of Crash 4, the core fundamental gameplay elements look good, but they still seem to lack that sense of weight/heftiness/visceral-sensation that the original Crash games did so well with controlling Crash. The sound and particle effects that played when Crash broke them also had a solid, heftiness to them that just felt good. Same with the crates, they felt good to jump on and spin into. His jumps are springy with just enough air time, and he lands with a nice solid heft in those original games. The moving and interacting with crates in the original games was a huge reason they were so good and why they still hold up. But just judging it from the video footage we've seen, it still has this kind of flimsy, "cheapness" (hard to describe, I don't want to be insulting to the devs either) to the movement/interaction. Gameplay wise, specifically in regards to how Crash moves, jumps, and interacts with the crates, I think it looks pretty good too. That said, it does look better than every single Crash Bandicoot game after Warped which is a good thing. It looks better than it did when we first got glimpses of the game, but I still don't think it touches the original games' art. I like that it seems very platform and hazard focused, just what I want out of my platforming games, especially Crash. The total runtime does not take into consideration races, and as a result, it will be longer than the actual scheduled runtime. It looks pretty good.
